Is it Spring yet? I’m afraid the worst of winter is yet to come so I’m arming myself with fresh limes and orange juice. When it snows in Atlanta, the entire city shuts down because we’re just not equipped to handle it. But I’m always equipped to entertain! With just four simple, all natural ingredients, you can make the most delicious and refreshing margaritas ever. This margarita packs a tangy punch and best of all, you won’t find any artificial sugary mixes in your glass. Just close your eyes and pretend you’re basking in the glow of the summer sun outside on your patio. At least, that’s how I plan to keep warm!
The Skinny on Skinny Cocktails
I never bought into the whole skinny cocktail thing. I mean, if I want a low calorie beverage, I’ll just drink water. Alcohol comes from sugar so, unfortunately, the more kick in your cocktail, the higher the calories. Of course, there are a few ways to mitigate that. First of all, you could water it down. That doesn’t sound good but if you use a naturally low calorie or calorie free liquid, like freshly squeezed lime juice, you are essentially accomplishing the same thing. Secondly, you could just add less alcohol to instantly zap the calorie content. Why do you think light beers have lower alcohol by volume? The reason there aren’t many “light” wines on the market is that wines that are naturally lighter in calories already exist, like most dry sparkling wines. I guess that’s why models in advertisements are often drinking Champagne! It’s got fewer calories then most other wines. And finally, you could buy into the low calorie artificial sweetener cocktail mixes, but personally I’d rather just enjoy the real thing. After all, I would never dream of substituting anything less than decadent for real cheese or butter so why in the world would I mess with a perfectly good cocktail?
Put away the corkscrew! These sweet and sour margaritas pair best with spicy Mexican foods and any one of my Guacamoles for all seasons.
