The Academy Awards are coming up on Sunday and I’ve got a sausage dip for your Oscar party that’s just the perfect combination of naughty and nice! I’ve certainly had my share of sausage dips over the years. There is something so incredibly sinful about the decadent combination of savory sausage and creamy cheese that makes it virtually irresistible. It’s practically baked crack. But I don’t bother with recipes that call for processed cheese products and canned vegetables. This dip is 100% natural and 100% delicious. I even reduce the fat a little bit by using reduced fat sausage and light cream cheese. Then I jazz it up by serving the dip in easy-to-make homemade tartlets so it’s pretty enough to serve at fancy affairs. If you’re not into fussy foods though, just dump it in a bowl and bake it up. Simple. One bite is all it takes, I promise you’ll be back for more.
Must Have Dip
I used to have a lock on my closet, after all, a girl needs her privacy every once in a while. But my youngest daughter locked me out last summer and we had to break open the door, so now it doesn’t lock. In this case, that’s a good thing because if I could sneak away behind closed doors with this dip, I’d eat the whole thing, no questions asked. Don’t judge me. Try it for yourself and tell me you wouldn’t do the same!
Suggested Wine Pairings
The tangy cream cheese and savory sausage combination calls for a medium to full bodied wine with rich fruit and crisp acidity to cut through the richness of the dip and refresh the palate following each bite. If you prefer white wine, try an unoaked Chardonnay or Viognier to balance the rich cheese and sausage blend. A wine with a bit of residual sugar, like an off-dry Riesling or Chenin Blanc, would also taste refreshing and help tame the peppery heat from the jalapeño peppers. In turn, the spices would accentuate the fruit flavors in the wine. If you are a red wine lover, look for one with medium tannins and bright acidity, like a Merlot, Grenache, Zinfandel or Cabernet Franc.
