Georgia’s First Locally Produced Hand Crafted Peanut Butter
This might as well be National peanut butter week because the amount of peanut butter my family has consumed since Jaime Foster, the entrepreneur behind NaturAlmond all natural almond butters and the new line of hand crafted peanut butters, dropped off a few jars last week, has been astonishing! Georgia Grinders all natural butters consist of two simple ingredients, Georgia-grown, slow-roasted peanuts and sea salt, and comes in two delicious varieties, Creamy and Crunchy.
Georgia Grinders Premium Peanut Butter Media Launch
I was part of the select group invited to attend the National product media launch yesterday at Southbound Restaurant, the gem of Chamblee, where Executive Chef Ryan Smith treated us to course after delicious course of creative dishes made with Georgia Grinders peanut butter. Chef Smith did a phenomenal job of showcasing the versatility of peanut butter, in everything from classic Chicken Satay and Spinach Goma-ae with Sesame sauce to Grilled Peanut Butter Jelly Bacon Sandwiches and Peanut Butter Brined Pork Belly with Apple Peanut Compote. As if that wasn’t enough, our decadent five course tasting menu was paired with enticing Peanut Butter Cup Cocktails, a sweet concoction of peanut butter, Frangelico, Kahlua and Crème de Cacao, and concluded with heavenly coffee-spiked Peanut Butter Chocolate Truffles. I think peanut butter may just be my new favorite ingredient, and Chef Smith’s inspired menu even sparked a few new ideas that I can not wait to try at home!
Nuts About Butter
We also got to sample all four sweet and savory flavors of the NaturAlmond almond butter line. These healthy and good-for-you nut butters taste amazing, and my personal favorite is the Maple Caramel though the Honey Roasted is a very close second. It’s truly dessert in a jar, with a side of healthy protein, and just the perfect hint of sweetness and crunch. Lucky for us, we can find the almond butters in stores, like The Fresh Market, across the country and the new peanut butter is already on shelves in Whole Foods and other local stores in Atlanta. And if you’re like me with two little ones at home and would rather shop on line, you can find all these delicious products on their website!
Six More Reasons to Love Peanut Butter
Who knew that peanut butter could be such a versatile ingredient, capable of adding depth and heft to savory dishes and sauces and richness and flavor to desserts? Actually I did! Most Americans have fond childhood memories of peanut butter and seeing the smile it brings to my girls’ faces, I can understand why. However, growing up in a multi-cultural home, it wasn’t my mom’s go-to lunchbox staple, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t enjoy peanut butter in other interesting ways. Move over PB&J! Not that there’s anything less than satisfying about using peanut butter as a sandwich spread, but that’s only the beginning. Here are six of my favorite, somewhat unexpected, incredible culinary uses for all natural peanut butter.
Protein Power Boost
You’ve already seen just how delicious and creamy hummus can be with the addition of peanut butter in the place of traditional tahini. Never mind that it totally amps up the protein, iron and a multitude of other good-for-you nutrients and minerals, because it’s crazy tasty too. If you haven’t tried this yet, you are missing out! Peanut butter has the power to instantly add protein and healthy fats to just about any dish. When my girls were old enough to eat solid foods, almost every one of their meals consisted of something with peanut butter mixed in. As adults, we still need a healthy does of fat and protein on a regular basis. Try stirring creamy peanut butter into your favorite smoothies, greek yogurt or oatmeal for an instant surge of energy. Peanut butter is unstoppably delicious paired up with ultra-healthy kale and bananas in this tasty Tropical Kale Smoothie.
I love fusion dishes! Blending my favorite flavors from different cuisines or creating dishes with the flavors of one cuisine prepared in the style of another, truly allows me to reach full creative potential in devising new and delicious recipes. This Sesame-Crusted Chicken Meatball Satay with Spicy Peanut Sauce is a great example of a fusion dish that is a little bit of both, combining the concept of classic Italian meatballs with the flavors of Asian-style Chicken Satay. And the sauce is incredible stirred into your favorite pasta, couscous or rice. Believe me, you are going to want this at your Super Bowl party so I’ll be sharing this incredible recipe with you next week just in time for the big game. Chef Smith was gracious enough to divulge his delicious Peanut Sauce, so in the meantime, I’m sharing the love with you!
Sriracha Peanut Butter
Tomorrow we’re trying Mexican-Asian Fusion night with savory Steak Soft Tacos drizzled with sweet and spicy Sriracha-Spiked Peanut Sauce. If you haven’t had peanut butter with Sriracha, you must give this sauce a try. It’s almost like the two were meant for each other, the way that the nutty creaminess of the butter compliments and contrasts the sweet spice of the Sriracha. It is a full sensory experience!
Ham it Up
Peanut butter and bacon is a classic pairing made famous by Elvis Presley’s favorite peanut butter, bacon and banana sandwich. The concept isn’t new to me but to be honest, it’s one of those things that I just had to taste for myself to believe it. And last night I became a believer! Chef Smith treated our tastebuds to Grilled Peanut Butter, Jelly and Bacon Sandwiches and Peanut Butter Brined Bacon with Apple Peanut Compote. I love how the smoky, crispy bacon draws out the peanut butter’s savory side and the tart fruit jelly added just the right amount of acidity to perfectly balance out the dish. This is my new favorite and I can’t wait to toss it on my panini press along with a thick slab of sharp cheddar. Because, like bacon, cheese makes everything better!
Soups and Sauces
Peanut butter also has the ability to instantly add depth, flavor and an unmistakable richness to your favorite soups and sauces. As for me, I like to pair it with truffled pumpkin and Cannellini beans or roasted cauliflower, blue cheese and spiced up coconut milk. Try adding a few tablespoons to your favorite soup, after all, we are celebrating National soup month for a few more days!
Peanut Butter Bound
Creamy peanut butter also has the capability to serve as an emulsifier, kind of like when you add dijon mustard to vinegar and olive oil in order to bind the two ingredients together and form a vinaigrette. I love the ease and moist flavor of Panko and mayonnaise-crusted baked chicken. Not only is it a quick weeknight meal, but it’s way healthier and just as juicy as fried chicken. Now try substituting peanut butter for the mayonnaise in this recipe and you’ve got one ultra-crunchy, moist-tasting protein-rich meal. Then, try dipping this nutty chicken into that spicy peanut sauce for the ultimate peanut flavor explosion.
Of course, no list would be complete without a mention of using peanut butter in desserts. After all, peanut butter and chocolate is one of the most epic pairings in the history of sweet pairings, right? I’m more of a white chocolate kind of girl and although I do enjoy a good peanut butter swirl brownie or creamy chocolate and peanut butter pie, I really value a show-stopping dessert that I can whip up in less than 10 minutes using just three simple ingredients. One of my most popular posts last year was this three ingredient White Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Oreo fudge. It’s absolutely to die for! Want to really blow it out of the water? Try Georgia Grinders’ crunchy peanut butter instead of the creamy version, and stir in some sweet Cardamon spice for a heavenly treat that is equal parts rich and crunchy and 100% divine inspiration.
The Fine Print
Although our delicious experience at Southbound Restaurant was complimentary, I was in no way compensated for this post. These opinions are solely mine, and based on my own experiences. I am absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Jaime to bring you more creative dishes featuring Georgia Grinders Peanut Butter and NaturAlmond Almond Butter. Experience the natural taste of Georgia for yourself!
